Lawn Care Journal
Last Updated: April 2, 2026
Effective Date: April 2, 2026
Lawn Care Journal LLC (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), an Arizona limited liability company, operates the Lawn Care Journal mobile application and the public website at lawncarejournal.app. The App is distributed worldwide. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our App or our website.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
The App uses Apple iCloud for data storage and sync. Most of your data is stored in your private iCloud account and is not accessible to us, except as described below.
1.1 Information You Provide
In the App (stored in your private iCloud):
- Journal address: Property address for weather, directions, and map display. When you generate lawn plans, city/state (or the detail you choose in “Customize Plan Privacy”) may be shared with our AI provider. When you use the Lawn Assistant while a lawn journal is active in the app, the full address string stored for that journal may be included with your question so the response can be tailored to your property—not only city/state.
- Journal content: Lawn care logs, notes, journal entries, zones, products, lawn plans, and lawn assistant responses.
- Photos: Photos are referenced from your Photos library; we store only identifiers (PHAsset IDs) in iCloud, not the images themselves.
- API keys: If you integrate Rachio, Ambient Weather, or Tempest, you enter API keys; these are stored in your private iCloud.
- Reminders: The App can create reminders for lawn tasks; this requires Reminders access.
- Translation error reports: When you report a bad translation, we collect the text you submit (title, optional description) and the language code. Stored in a CloudKit database accessible to the developer to improve translations.
- Bug reports: When you report a bug, we collect the text you submit (title, optional description) plus app version, iOS version, device model, and locale to help reproduce issues. Stored in a CloudKit database accessible to the developer.
On our website (lawncarejournal.app):
- Newsletter and forms: If you sign up for email or submit information through forms on our website, we collect what you provide (for example your email address) to send marketing communications and operate the list. Processing is performed by Brevo (Sendinblue). The newsletter signup uses Google reCAPTCHA v3 to reduce spam and abuse; reCAPTCHA may process device and usage data as described by Google. See Brevo’s Privacy Policy and Google’s Privacy Policy.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device ID: Push notification device token stored in CloudKit for targeted notifications (e.g., entitlement grants). Not used for advertising or tracking.
- Location: When you grant permission, we use your location for solar radiation and evapotranspiration calculations. Coarse location (city/state) from your journal address is used for weather and lawn plan generation.
- Product analytics (App): We use Google Firebase Analytics (GA4) in the App to collect aggregated usage events (for example, first-time use of key features, paywall views, and purchase completion). Events do not include your journal text, full street addresses, photos, or the content of AI conversations. See Google’s Firebase Privacy information.
- Public website analytics: Our site at lawncarejournal.app uses Google Analytics 4 (loaded via Google Tag / gtag) to measure aggregated traffic and how visitors use the site. This is separate from Firebase Analytics in the App—it does not receive app data, journal content, or the same events as in-app analytics. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregated traffic (for example, page views and approximate geography). Neither web analytics service accesses your iCloud or journal data. See Google’s policy for Google Analytics and advertising and Cloudflare’s privacy information.
1.3 Information From Third Parties
- Apple: iCloud sync, StoreKit (in-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple; we do not collect payment information).
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the App and our website
- Sync your data across devices via your iCloud account
- Generate AI-powered lawn plans and lawn assistant responses (when you use those features)
- Provide weather forecasts and irrigation controller integration (when you enable them)
- Process in-app purchases and subscriptions (handled by Apple; we receive only entitlement status)
- Send marketing emails when you sign up on our website (you may unsubscribe as described in those messages)
- Improve translations and fix bugs based on user reports
- Comply with legal obligations
3. DATA SHARING AND DISCLOSURE
We may share your information with:
- Apple (iCloud/CloudKit): Your journals, entries, zones, products, exports, and app settings sync to your private iCloud. We do not access this data except as necessary to operate the App.
- x.ai (Grok):
- Lawn plans: We send your plan-related prompts and optional context (for example city/state and lawn attributes) according to your choices under Customize Plan Privacy.
- Lawn Assistant: When you submit a question while a lawn journal is active, we may send your question plus lawn name, the address stored for that journal (which may be a full street address), and short zone summaries (for example grass type per zone) to personalize the response. This is not your full journal history. If you do not want that context sent, avoid using the Assistant while that journal is active, clear or limit the address in journal settings, or use the Assistant when no journal context applies—see in-app disclosures on the Assistant screens.
- The AI provider is subject to change.
- Rachio, Ambient Weather, Tempest: Only if you integrate these services; we send only the API keys and data you explicitly provide.
- Apple WeatherKit: Location (address converted to coordinates) for weather forecasts.
- Google (Firebase Analytics / GA4 — App): Usage events and device/app identifiers as described in Google’s documentation, for product improvement and understanding how the App is used. Not used for cross-app advertising; we do not sell your personal information.
- Google (Google Analytics 4 — website): Aggregated website usage and device/browser identifiers as described in Google’s documentation for lawncarejournal.app via the web tag (gtag). Distinct from in-app Firebase Analytics; does not include journal or iCloud data.
- Cloudflare: Cloudflare Web Analytics (beacon) on lawncarejournal.app for aggregated traffic measurement.
- Brevo: Hosting and delivery of marketing email when you subscribe on our website; list data processed per Brevo’s terms.
- Google (reCAPTCHA v3): Risk signals and related data when you submit forms on our website; see Google’s privacy documentation for reCAPTCHA.
- Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect our rights. We may disclose information in response to lawful requests from law enforcement. Where permitted by law, we will notify you of such requests.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, sale, acquisition, or bankruptcy reorganization of our business. If our business is sold or reorganized, your data may transfer to the successor. We will notify you of any material change in ownership or data practices.
Feature requests: If you submit feature requests or votes, these may be stored in a database accessible to the developer for product improvement. If you delete all app data, your votes and comments are deleted, but anonymized feature requests may be retained.
Translation and bug reports: Stored in a CloudKit database accessible to the developer. Used to improve translations and fix bugs. Not shared with third parties.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. DATA RETENTION
Your data is primarily stored in your iCloud account. When you use “Delete all my data” in App Settings, we delete all data from our systems and your app returns to a newly downloaded state. We may retain data as required by law (e.g., tax records) or to resolve disputes. Feature requests (without identifying information) may be retained for product improvement. Translation error reports and bug reports are stored in a separate CloudKit database and may not be removed by “Delete all my data”; to request deletion of your reports, contact us at privacy@lawncarejournal.app.
5. DATA SECURITY
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption, access controls, and secure storage. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Breach. In the event of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law (e.g., within 72 hours under GDPR where applicable, or as required by state breach notification laws). We will also notify relevant regulators where required.
6. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your data
- Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Opt-out: Opt out of marketing communications or certain data processing
- Withdraw consent: Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@lawncarejournal.app. We will respond within 30 days.
Data deletion: Use “Delete all my data” in App Settings to delete all data and return the app to a newly downloaded state. You may also contact us at privacy@lawncarejournal.app. We will respond within 30 days.
7. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
The App and our marketing website are not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. AI-GENERATED CONTENT
The App uses third-party AI (currently x.ai/Grok) for lawn plans and the lawn assistant. The AI provider is subject to change at any time. If we change AI providers, our data practices may change; we will update this Privacy Policy to reflect any material changes. For lawn plans, you control optional context (such as city/state and lawn attributes) through Customize Plan Privacy. For the Lawn Assistant, when a lawn journal is active, the app may automatically include a short USER_LAWN_CONTEXT block with your question (for example lawn name, stored address, and zone summaries)—see §3 and the Assistant screens; there is no separate “Lawn Assistant Privacy Context” toggle. AI-generated content is not guaranteed to be accurate; use it as a reference only.
9. THIRD-PARTY LINKS AND SERVICES
The App may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., maps). We are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.
10. INTERNATIONAL USERS
The App and our website are operated from the United States. If you access the App or our website from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App or our website, you consent to such transfer and processing. Data protection laws in your country may differ from those in the U.S. We take reasonable steps to protect your information in accordance with this Policy regardless of where it is processed.
11. INTERNATIONAL PRIVACY RIGHTS (GDPR AND OTHERS)
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with similar laws:
- Legal basis: We process your data based on your consent, contract performance, or our legitimate interests (providing and improving the App and our website).
- Data transfer: Your data may be transferred to the U.S. and other countries. We use appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) where required.
- Rights: You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, data portability, object, and withdraw consent. You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
12. CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- Right to know what personal information is collected
- Right to delete personal information
- Right to opt out of sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@lawncarejournal.app.
13. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App, on our website, and/or by email or in-app notification. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
